Gulab Singh Saini’s was the great revolutionary and a Freedom Fighter. He was ‘Senapati',(Commander-in-chief) of Ballabhgarh's army during the regime of Raja Nahar Singh.
On May 10, 1857 he fought in the fierce battle for independence against the British soldiers who had advanced from Meerut and Ambala to conquer Delhi.
Sh. Gulab Singh Saini and his fellow dare-devilsoldiers crushed the British army in the battle on 10th May 1857 forcing them to flee for their lives, thereby preventing British from entering Delhi. Besides, He also played a significant role in the coronation of Bahadur Shah Zafar as the emperor of India, the nominal leader of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 by a congress of Indian rulers.
Sh. Gulab Singh Saini was son of Jodh Singh Saini, a close associate of Raja Nahar Singh of Ballabgarh, since many generations. Gulab Singh's forefathers traditionally held high ranks as army chiefs in the Maharaja Nahar Singh’s Family regime successively in the predominantly Jat principality.
Gulab Singh Saini was trained by his father Jodh Singh Saini. Thereafter, hewas appointed as the 'Senapati' (Commander in chief) of Ballabgarh Army upon the coronation of Nahar Singh as the Raja of Ballabhgarh.
On May 10, 1857 when English soldiers advanced from Merrut and Ambala to attack Delhi, Gulab Singh Saini with Raja Nahar Singh led a composite army which consisted of Muslims, Jats, Sainis, Meos and numerous other soldiers of Rajput extractions, inflicting a crushing defeat on the British army and forcing them to retreat.
Gulab Singh Saini was captured by the British Army by deceit. He fought bravely in that battle.
Unfortunately, he was captured and hanged, alongside RajaNahar Singh and Madho Singh, in the Chandni Chowk, New Delhi on 9 January 1858.
Gulab Singh was charged with accusation of playing the beagle against the British government.
His friends Khushal Singh and Bhure Singh of Ballabhgarh, who had actively fought with him,were also hanged later.

Gulab Singh Saini and his friends were hanged and executed in the above Phasighar, after being tried for mutiny. This is a two storey British Phasighar situated on the grounds of Delhi Assembly, close to the gate behind the Vitthal Bhai Patel Statue. It was initially lockedbut was discovered in 2018, when the walls were broken and was opened to public on August 9, 2018.
The photographs of the freedom fighters Gulab Singh Saini along with other warriors like Dinesh Gupta, Khudiram Bose, Umaj Naik, Kartar Singh Sarabh, Ashfaqullah Khan can be seen in the Gallery on the upper level of Phasighar. During the Brtish rule, the Freedom fighters were made captive andbrought here, to PhasiGhar for trial and execution.

Late Dr. Ranjeet Singh Saini, MA ,P.hd. (Sep 20,1938 – Sep 19, 2000)– He was elder son of Buddh Ram Saini, a born academician who had a Doctorate in Sanskrit Grammar and MA in History and Buddhist Study, was the author of many books of Sanskrit Grammar (as mentioned above, alongside others), as well historian most notably "Raja Nahar Singh Ka Balidan". He had done extensive research on the life of Raja Nahar Singh and Gulab Singh Saini during his lifetime. Dr. Ranjeet Singh Saini was professorin charge and vice principal of Moti Lal Nehru College, University of Delhi, had actively contributed in discovering the history of our ancestors Gulab Singh Saini.
The above-named person is the original and true legal heir, successor, and descendent of Freedom fighter Shree Gulab Singh Saini. any person falsely claiming to be the descendent or successor of the Shree Gulab Sing Saini shall be dealt with firmly including legal action for impersonation, cheating and action for damages for loss of goodwill. It has come to our knowledge that some unscrupulous before are falsy claiming to the legal heirs of Late Shree Gulab Sing Saini to claim patronage from the government and sympathy and to drive unwanted gain and benefit, Strict legal action is being taken against the general public are warned and any dealing such person without verification.
